What is New Pathways?

New Pathways is a private nonprofit community-based corporation founded in 1976.  New Pathways administers programs that provide housing, educational and vocational counseling, life skills training, mentoring, and aftercare services to foster care and adjudicated youth.  Agency programs operate in neighborhood settings to provide opportunities for growth and development while integrated into a community.  The agency developed this philosophy to divert youth from placement in institutional settings.  New Pathways was developed with the full support of the local civic association and neighborhood.

New Pathways is exempt from Federal and State income taxation under IRS Section 501(c)(3).  The agency is funded by contracts with the Maryland Departments of Human Resources and Juvenile Services.  New Pathways accepts gifts, donations, and grants to support aftercare and mentoring services, which are not funded by the contracts.

The Maryland Department of Human Resources licenses New Pathways as a Child Placement Agency with an unlimited client capacity.  Current agency programs serve approximately seventy youth at any given time.  The State annually monitors and reviews agency programs.  New Pathways has more than forty full-time and part-time employees and an annual budget of over $3.0 million.

We share a vision to be an organization that is:

Inspired to respond to the needs of young adults by providing the support they need to successfully transition to self-sufficiency.

Motivated to pursue a path of excellence through continuous quality improvements in all that we do, embracing the
use of technology and outcome measurement.

Empowered to collaborate locally and nationally as a guiding force in the promotion and advancement of effective independent living programming.

New Pathways currently operates and manages two (2) programs: Independence Plus and Second Generations
